Morning Song

This morning I went out looking for something to take pictures of and the first thing I saw was this beautiful bird. It was singing its little heart out. The red really glows in the morning sun.

Fabrications

Today I was out with my friend Diane taking the Santa Fe Geocaching Challenge. It took us to eight Santa Fe landmarks in the Plaza Area. One of those places was the State Capitol. While there we noticed a Quilt Exhibit in the Rotunda. There were some beautiful pieces.

Clouds Over the Sangre de Cristos

Today was a very weird weather day. We had hellacious winds, rain, sunshine and clouds. Later in the day all that was left were these beautiful clouds over the mountains.

Shasta Daisy

Our garden continues to bring new flowers each day. This daisy is one of about 100 that we have blooming in the yard now. This also happens to be my favorite flower.

Memorial Day

Memorial Day
May 26, 2008

"BIVOUAC OF THE DEAD"
The muffled drum's sad roll has beat
The soldier's last tattoo;
No more on life's parade shall meet
That brave and fallen few.
On Fame's eternal camping-ground
Their silent tents are spread,
And Glory guards, with solemn round,
The bivouac of the dead.

The Poppies are Popping Up Everywhere

Our yard is full of California Poppies. In the last few days they all seem to have bloomed together. The garden was incredible in the morning sunshine.

Radiant Sunset

Somehow I forgot to take pictures today. Work was busy and I had a few things to get done after work and by the time I got home I realized I didn't have any pictures. So I watched as the day ended in a radiant sunset and got a few pictures.

Roy G Biv

"Nobody ever had a rainbow baby, until he had the rain."
Jim Croce - Tomorrow's Gonna Be A Brighter Day

Most of today was rainy, but every so often the sun would peek out. When I left work it was raining so I just headed home and decided I would have to figure something out for a picture today. The rain stopped and I looked out the window to see this rainbow. So I made it my picture of the day.

Tube Lichen

I took a little walk today after work and discovered a little area full of lichen and moss. I found this one at the base of a pine tree. After searching the internet I came to the conclusion that it is some form of tube lichen in the genus Hypogymnia.

The Birds are Singing

Today I sat in a small park and had my lunch. While enjoying the great sunshine and the warm weather this little bird landed in a tree not far from me. I believe he was also happy with the weather - he stayed there and sang his little bird song for most of my lunch break.

The View from Atalaya

This morning I decided I wanted to get out and hike. I have been thinking about hiking the Atalaya Trail. So early this morning I did just that. The views from the top are spectacular.

A very nice day today except for about an hour when the wind got a little wild. Once the wind settled down I went out to take pictures. We have Irises blooming like crazy - here is just one.

Mogollon Lion

A long day at work, allergy flare-up and rainy weather. I didn't much feel like taking pictures today - but I decided I needed to. I wanted to find somewhere warm and dry. So I went to the Capitol.

Another Santa Fe Sunset

This afternoon I sat on the porch and was just enjoying the chilly evening. It was a beautiful and peaceful time - and everything was damp from the day's rain. I love the smell after a good rain! As the sun was setting I got my camera and started taking pictures. The Santa Fe sunsets are some of the most beautiful around.

Baby Rabbit

For a few years now Thomas and I have had rabbits living under our shed. Every spring we like to watch the new babies come out and play. This afternoon one of them did just that. He was hopping around and running. He did stop long enough for me to take this picture.

Panthera leo

In case someone didn't know - I like lions. So today while at the zoo I spent quite a bit of time taking pictures and watching the lion and lioness. I think lions are one of the world's most striking animals.

A Bird in Silhouette

I was trying to get some pictures of birds today but I wasn't having any luck. They were either too far away or didn't linger long enough. I was getting very frustrated. But I kept shooting and when I finally left I wondered if there was a picture that I could use here. To my surprise I had this silhouette that I love.

Simplicity

During my walk today I was having a hard time finding pictures. I had taken a few pictures of flowers and a couple of other things - but I wasn't happy with them. So I kept walking and eventually came across this flower pot on a wall. The simplicity of the setting caught my eye.

Pine Cone

After a long and stressful day at work I debated about whether I would go and take pictures or not. Of course I ended up talking myself into a short drive up Hyde Park Road. I found a pullout and parked. I walked down the embankment to the creek and found a log to use to cross over to the other side. All I noticed was the large amount of pine cones everywhere. So I took pictures of that - I know a little boring - but I liked the close-up of this one.

Great Tree

I took a walk this evening in downtown Santa Fe. I was looking for things to photograph but I wasn't sure what I was looking for. So I just ambled around just enjoying an evening walk. I passed by this place a couple of times and each time the tree caught my eye - so I stopped and took a few pictures. I really love its shape and texture.

Green-veined White

Today I hiked the Chamisa Trail! It was a great morning - no wind, beautiful skies and a peaceful trail. When I arrived at the meadow at the intersection of the Chamisa and Windsor Trails I found a place to sit and have a snack and some water. While enjoying the morning the Green-veined White Butterfly decided to share my solitude.

Lizzy

This little guy was seen on the Dorothy Stewart Trail. I took a walk after work - I didn't walk the whole trail since I was in work clothes, but this little lizard didn't seem to mind.

Dandy Lion

Walking around the capitol building this afternoon I was having difficulty deciding what pictures to take. I spotted this dandelion and decided to try and get some neat close-ups. I spent about 20 minutes just taking picture after picture. I wanted to try and get a really nice detailed picture and I think I succeeded.

Petroglyphs

Today I spent a very windy day in Albuquerque. I took a walk at the Piedras Marcadas part of the Petroglyph National Monument. There was dust everywhere and it was hard to take any good pictures. This was the best I could accomplish today.
