I probably could just take pictures of the sky here in New Mexico each and every day and make that my picture of the day. The sky is ever changing and absolutely beautiful. But you don't have to take my word - come to New Mexico and see for yourself.
The property has just bloomed with wildflowers. Today I was able to get some good pictures of these yellow coneflowers. I just love the simplicity of this flower.
Our Russian Sage bush began blooming this past week. I love the purple glow it gives the garden. It is one of my favorite bushes.
I loved the picture I got when I focused on the center of this Shasta Daisy. These are my favorite flowers.
I know that weeds can be invasive and are not necessarily welcomed into most gardens. But as I took a picture of this weed that has grown into one of our bushes I could not help but think of the beauty it brought into the garden.
This morning I was sitting on the porch drinking my coffee. It was a good morning except for the flies hanging around my porch. I noticed one on the chair next to me. I decided to see if I could photograph the little fellow up close. I was surprised how well the detail on this fly showed up.
The last few days I have spent the early evening just watching the New Mexico sky. It really intrigues me. Today I took pictures at dusk - the sky was absolutely beautiful.
The golden color of this sunset just amazed me. I think I took about 75 pictures as the sun exited for the day. It got me to thinking. What gives the sunset its color? I don't think I ever contemplated this before.
I had a wonderful evening watching this big beautiful moon rise above the mountains. I love watching the moon during the month to see all of its phases.
Today I watched as storm clouds formed over Santa Fe. This is a common occurrence in Santa Fe in the summer. You should check the local Santa Fe weather before planning any outdoor activiites.
I just loved the way the eerie effect in this photo with the clouds across the moon. It was a beautiful night and I had to wait about 20 minutes for this shot.
Thomas has a variety of larkspur around the garden. I was able to get a nice picture of one today. I have been having trouble getting pictures of these flowers due to the wind - but today it was calm enough.
Here is a close-up of one of Thomas' water lilies. I really love these plants in the ponds - they really make the pond complete.
Another little bird hanging out in the yard. I love the markings on this bird - again I was unable to spend the time necessary to find out what kind of bird - but I did find a link to Birds of the Southwest Desert.
Thomas' ponds have been doing well this summer and recently the water lilies have been blooming. I was able to get this picture of three of the lilies all blooming at once.
Thomas has blue flax planted everywhere in the yard - I know I already had a picture of this flower but I liked the way this one turned out. The color of this flower is so spectacular.
Since today is flag day I had an easy time of taking pictures. I just went outside and photographed our flag against the beautiful New Mexico sky.
This small yellow flower came up in the yard all by itself. I guess I mean it was the only one of its kind - Thomas must have planted it along with other stuff - but it is the only sunflower looking flower in the yard. I am hoping there are others since I think it is a great little flower.
I thought this little bird had the cutest little bird legs. He kind of looks bow-legged. You can check the Birds of the Southwest link to see if you can find out what kind of bird he is.
This little bird was just standing there staring. It made me think that he was At Attention waiting for orders. Again - I'm not sure what kind of bird - but here is the link to Birds of the Southwest.
This cute little bird was hanging out in the yard today. I was able to get a nice picture when he decided to stop and rest on our wall. I don't have the time (or energy -with my eye) to look up what kind of bird. But here is a link to Birds of the Southwest.
Well my four poppy pods opened and I have this photo of four beautiful oriental poppies. I look forward to every summer so I can watch these flowers come to life.
This picture kind of reminds me of Georgia O'Keeffe's Red Poppy painting. I liked the composition and the way the photo came out.
Thomas planted a bunch of new plants in the yard this year. But not all of them have propered. I found this one morning glory peeking out of a little corner of a flower bed.
I was really excited to see these four oriental poppy pods - this means four beautiful flowers all at once. I especially like how they are all the same height and all in a row.
One of my favorite flowers in our garden is my Oriental Poppies. I have been waiting for these to bloom for a while now. I love the color and shape of these flowers.
*Please note: Since my Retinal Detachment I am only able to see out of one eye. I also only have about 15 minutes each day when I can go and take pictures. And I actually can't go anywhere - so all my pictures are from my yard. I hope it doesn't get too boring.
I was lucky enough to walk through the garden this morning and get this picture of some Blue Flax. It wasn't long after that the wind started blowing and I had a difficult time taking any pictures outside after that.
Taking a walk today I stopped by a little garden off of the sidewalk. I noticed this great Bachelor's Button. I liked the way the sun was hitting it.
Today I turned 47 years old. Isn't it funny - when you are young this number seems so old, now that I am here - it doesn't. I still feel young - well at least young at heart. So here is to 1961 and to my birthday.
As I was walking on the property I noticed all these beetles everywhere. So I took a bunch of pictures. Not sure if this is a ground beetle but it is the closest I could come to identifying it.
